Born in 1966 at Frankfurt am Main, Mr Friedrichs studied at the Fotofachakademie, the Munich academy of photography. From 1990 to 1993, he worked as a freelance photographer for Stern, Merian, the New York Times and Independent Magazine, among others. He travelled to South Africa, Namibia and Venezuela, where he collaborated with the painter Angel Sanches. In 1994, his work was shown in the group exhibition Frankfurter Gesichter. He returned to Munich in the same year, where he worked as a freelancer for German, English and American publications. He has been living in London since 1997.
His first book, Troubadour of Allah, was published in 1999.
In 2004, he filmed a documentary about the slaughter of dolphins in Japan called Blood Red Sea.
His ongoing major work for the past 10 years is a documentary film and a book in Venezuela called Desert Angels, scheduled for publication in 2006.
